Peter Barrow​​

Peter began his career in marketing and communications as the first Communications Officer for the (then) Waterloo County Board of Education. As a private consultant, he provided marketing and communications consulting services to the Waterloo board, the former Wellington County Separate School Board, the former Waterloo County Separate School Board and other boards of education in Peel, Hamilton-Wentworth, Durham and Bruce-Grey. As a trainer and facilitator, he toured Ontario for the former Ontario School Trustees Council, the Ontario Public School Men's Teachers Federation, the Federation of Women Teacher's Association of Ontario providing seminars and strategic planning assistance to these organizations. 

He now has more than 40 years' experience working in and with provincial education bodies across the province and has, at various times, provided services to the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (ITC Professionals, School Transportation Officials, Freedom of Information and Records Management personnel) with training and development programs at the University of Guelph. He is one of only a very small handful of facilitators who have taught two week-long OASBO programs at the University "back to back" in a single summer. This year, he will teach a Certificate Program in Business Communications for OASBO. He also facilitates a wide range of other programs, notably "Managing Very Challenging Customers" for hydro-electric companies across Ontario, under the MEARIE GROUP. He has toured extensively with his own "Train the Trainer" program, focusing on principles of adult learning and retention. 

Peter now tends to concentrate on the facilitation of Strategic Planning programs and has recently assisted both the Renfrew County District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board with their strategic planning process. Previously, he has worked with boards in Simcoe, Waterloo, Wellington, Windsor, Durham and many other areas on elements of strategic planning – training and/or facilitation. He developed the Pathways © process to help with "Hurry Up Strategic Planning" and has also provided numerous strategic sessions to other organizations, most recently the Guelph YM-YWCA and St. Jerome's University, Waterloo. 

Peter owns Petrona Associates Ltd, based in Guelph, ON, a training and facilitation company. He previously owned Barrow Communications Ltd, a marketing firm that he sold successfully in 2000 to focus on facilitation and training. He is a certified training professional of the Canadian Society for Training and Development, a graduate of Carleton University and the author of numerous articles on public service communications and marketing. 

Areas of specialization for board professional learning: Peter is a generalist and able to offer facilitated learning on all components of the Multi-Year Strategic Planning process.
