Service Providers
Ontario Regulation 521/01, as amended by Regulation 322/03 requires Boards to collect criminal background checks on all existing staff and all Service Providers.
A Service Provider is defined as “an individual who comes into direct contact with pupils on a regular basis, at a school site of a board in the normal course of providing goods or services under contract with the board OR carrying out his or her employment functions as an employee of a person who provides goods or services under contract with the board, OR providing services to a person who provides goods or services under contract with the board.
All school boards in Ontario now require Service Providers to carry a valid OESC ID card and a piece of valid government issued photo-identification whenever they are on school board property.
If you have been identified by an Ontario school board as one of their Service Providers you will need to register with OESC to obtain OESC ID cards for yourself and/or all your employees who attend on school board property. Upon completion of a satisfactory Police Record Check you will receive an OESC ID card which is valid for 3 years. After 3 years, a new Police Record Check will be required.
It is the responsibility of Service Provider individuals and organizations to ensure all employees who enter schools are not an unacceptable risk to the safety of students and that they obtain and carry a valid OESC ID card and valid government issued photo-identification when they are in schools.
Service Providers fall into different categories and require specific forms.
